Developmental summaries for each age group
Under 18 Months: Avoid screen time except for video chatting with loved ones. Toddlers and Preschoolers (18 months – 5 years): Screen time should be limited and meaningful. Choose high-quality content.
Be present: Try to co-watch or co-play with your child when they use media. Choose real play: If you're busy (e.g., making dinner), supervised independent play—like stacking cups or looking at books—is better than handing over a device. Mix it up: Make time for talking, reading, outdoor play, and family games.
Sleep, move, and unplug: Sleep: 8–12 hours (age-dependent) Physical play: At least 1 hour daily Media-free: Set times and places without screens (e.g., during meals, in bedrooms) No devices in bedroom
